우소아는 홍익대학교 도예유리과와 뉴욕 스쿨 오브 비주얼
아츠(School of Visual Arts)를 졸업했으며, 현재 작품 제작과
워크숍, 도서 열람실로 구성된 ‘미기후 스튜디오’를 운영한다.
그의 작업은 날씨 기록하기, 동일한 대상을 매일 촬영하기, 남은
채소와 과일 말리기, 나뭇가지나 작업 부산물 모으기 등 일상적인
행위에서 출발한다. 반복적이고 사소한 실천을 통해 사물에 깃든
생명력을 탐구하며, 이를 애니미즘적 태도로 바라보고
수집·정리·기록하는 아카이브 방식으로 확장한다.
Soah Woo graduated from the Department of Ceramics and Glass at
Hongik University and the School of Visual Arts in New York. She
currently runs “Microclimate Studio,” a space for art
production, workshops, and a reading room.
Her practice begins with everyday acts such as tracking the
weather, photographing the same subject daily, drying leftover
vegetables and fruits, or collecting branches and byproducts of
her work. Through these modest and repetitive acts, she explores
the vitality embedded in objects, approaching them with an
animistic perspective and extending them into archival practices
of collecting, organizing, and documenting.
